The Pain in Train



The picture above was Liverpool Street station at 6pm this evening - 55 minutes I arrived on the concourse and a further 2 hours and 45 minutes before I arrived home. For the record, my journey usually takes an hour and fifteen minutes door to door!

I had to take an alternate train home - via Southend on the Fenchurch St line - which would not have been so bad except for the fact the train I got on at Southend was cancelled as they had no drivers available!!!!

Needless to say very little has been done this evening other than to complain vociferously!

Three and three quarter hours to get home - I could have gone to the Mediterranean in less time!

    Ouch!

    That sounds very bad indeed! Did they give you any reason what the problem was at Liverpool Street?

    I know that the old Fenchurch Street line used to be called 'the misery line' but it sounds like Liverpool Street are now in competition for that title.

    Hi Bob,

    I had forgotten to include the reason for the disruption - a person had been hit by a train at Romford. The delays we all suffered are obviously of little consequence compared to the suffering of the poor unfortunates friends and family but the rail company appeared to have no obvious contingency plan for such an eventuality. Having no drivers available at Southend was really the icing on the cake!

    I feel better now though, after a good nights sleep and being able to print off the remaining labels with the replacement Rymans set.

    Hi Geordie,

    It was a depressing end to the week and no mistake and made a nonsense of my planned Friday evening!

    Obviously thoughts are with the poor unfortunates family etc but the rail company did not appear to have any kind of contingency in place which was hugely frustrating!

    No it wouldn't and yes I did!

    I managed to get a large chunk of Brigadier Gerard consumed as well as a few notes for a couple of ideas.
