Not a new picture but one I enjoy - The Confederate squadron at Mobile Bay: CSS Tennessee leading followed by the CSS Selma, both flanked by the steamers CSS Morgan (top) and CSS Gaines (bottom)
Progress has made with much of the text for Developing the Portable Ironclads Wargame and has been passed over to the editor in chief for initial formatting etc. A selection of the chapter headings are below which will give a little taste of what is to come.

Bibliography
There are other chapters to be added, including two or three devoted to the background of the Anglo-Turkish War of 1880 with the battle report - aside from these and the usual acknowledgments, introduction and an expanded Designers Notes, will be just about it.
In the meantime though, work on the models has stalled somewhat, simply because I am waiting on some bits from Warbases to continue. I have more than enough for some of the models but I am looking at a production line approach for the build so prefer to wait until all the pieces of the puzzle are in place.
It is all coming together nicely!
All sounds good David! Where did you get the mat from, which I think I have asked before?
ReplyDeleteHi Steve J,
DeleteThe mat I originally got from eBay - it is a Hotz mat with hexes that are 4” across the flat sides and a grid that is 13 x 9 hexes. It was from a private seller as I believe that Hotz are no longer making mats. As I recall it cost me a tenner!
It is made from felt with white lining and has seen many games, large and small. I shall still continue to use it but will be unleashing the Hexon for larger actions. The planned Anglo Turkish naval battle will feature around sixteen ships, possibly more, so I need to use the larger area.
I also need to eat the models built as well!
All the best,
DC
Great photo David, and excellent progress on your book. You will have a sense of satisfaction from the achievements. We like using square grid, never tried hex grid now you got my curiosity? Best wishes - Quinn
ReplyDeleteHi Quinn,
DeleteThank you kindly sir! The original Portable Ironclads Wargame used hexes but Developing will include the adaptations required to use a square grid if preferred. A lot of the original testing was done on a square grid but I had a few issues getting it to work as well as I would have liked, hence the late switch to hexes. I have the squared option sorted now so it is in the new book. I am aiming to have it published around Easter next year so not long to go.
All the best,
DC
