Went the day well....

This morning Laurel and I decided to visit our local boot sale as the season is drawing to a close. This year has been quite modest in terms of acquisitions - at least it has been for me, Laurel and Holly always seem to have bags full of stuff to bring home - aside from a couple of books and some trees a short while ago.

Today though, more than made up for it!

The box was battered beyond saving and the polystyrene packaging was haemorrhaging bits everywhere in the house but the contents are absolutely pristine - not bad for £5!

All hardback and all in pristine condition. The Overy title I acquired simply because it is better condition than the version I own (which is now going spare should anyone be interested) and the Storm from the East brings back fond memories of watching and enjoying the BBC series. The three above cost me £2.50 in total!

Needless to say I was really pleased with the North African village as it will be ideal for a whole range of projects beginning with the French Foreign Legion and also serving during the Great War and WW2 for Tunisia.

Anyone Beevor’s Stalingrad is a book I have read before but have not gotten around to acquiring a copy. The Russian Campaign is one of those things i will get around to tackling at some point - all the games of Panzerblitz and Squad Leader: Cross of Iron have certainly left their mark!

I have had a hankering for a Mongol Army for ages but have never really done anything about it. It may see the light of day at some point especially for something like Lion Rampant.

I feel rather pleased with myself and for only £7.50 the above represent a pretty fair return on the day out!

Hi Fran,

I was really pleased with the building set I can tell you! They also fit with 20mm which is handy as when I get to WW2 for Tunisia the infantry will be that scale. They look very nice on my Games Workshop Desert gaming mat for sure so all I need are a few palm trees and a couple of sand dunes and I am good to go!

All the best,

DC

I've read Beevor's book about 3 times. Excellent. I've not read Russia's War yet but have heard good things. Good haul!

Hi Phil,

It goes like that sometimes - you can go weeks and weeks with nothing and then suddenly ‘bang!’ - you have a good haul!

The Overy title is good from a strategic perspective.

Hi Bob,

This little lot rounded off a really good weekend and needless to say I was very pleased with the buildings which could happily be used for anything from the time of the Pharoahs onwards.

The books I was also pleased with and so I now have a couple of copies of the Overy title - let me know if you are interested and I will put it to one side.

All the best,

DC

A great find ! , those buildings are horribly expensive now !

Hello there Good Soldier Svjek,

I have not been able to find the set I acquired but based on the prices of similar sets in their range I reckon we are talking around £35 to £45 for the set. I could be wrong and if you know better I would be interested to know.

All the best,

DC

Splendid purchases well foraged!

Hello there tradgardmastare,

The strange thing about the building set was that there was absolutely nothing else on the stall that was even remotely gaming related. It really was a one off and was in fact under a pile of fishing magazines!

In one fell swoop it has more or less completed the building requirements for my planned North African adventures.

the books were really a bonus and were picked up virtually at the end of the stalls.

All the best,

DC
