Terminator Marines - dont you just love em!!

As promised, above is a picture of the venerable terminator marine models from the first edition of Space Hulk restored to my ownership after a nigh on 20 year absence. There were two conversions of note - the captain and the assault cannon marines (4 of them). The captain was very simple - I merely drilled out the hand to take a power sword and added a shaped piece of sprue to use as the scabbard. A purity seal was added to the shoulder for effect. The Assault Cannons started life as a flamer (this was a clip on weapon that fitted over the stormbolter - simple bit effective) but with the addition of some parts from the old (and much missed) GW game Adeptus Titanicus. The weapon sprues from this game were really good for all manner of things - I remember mounting some n flying bases for space ships - and so I cut down the gatling type gun and stuck it straight on the front of the flamer after having removed the twin nozzles. Simple but effective - although the weapons themselves are huge!

The revamp will be very limited in scope - probably just a quick touch up of the bases and some new transfers will suffice but all in all, they will stay pretty much as they are.

They look a bit different to the new ones! :-)

They look like a splash of Army Painter dip would work well on them (I am quite sold on this and have lots of dipping projects planned!)

I am really keen to try that stuff and your WW1 Brits did provide some inspiration. The Terminators were painted in about 1990 and had a coat of varnish with a drop of black paint in to provide shadow. I was really pleased with them at the time but they could use a little updating and freshening up. I was always really proud of the Assault Cannons - completely OTT but what the heck!

FOUR assault-cannons? Utter madness! The Mechanicus Forge-worlds will have to put in double shifts to keep this lot going! :-)

I'd agree with Steve's comments above - I've started 'dipping' my miniatures and haven't looked back - best thing I ever bought!

Did you ever get the MB boardgame Space Crusade? It had all manner of clip-on outsized weapons, and was fantastic for conversion-fodder!

The photo has come out a little on the 'washed out' side or rather it is 'flash flooded' so the shading is not shown up very well. I would love to tackle a similar sized terminator formation in another colour and try the army painter on them - I will have to see if I can acquire enough of the mark one Space Hulk terminators first. I know the Assault Cannons are OTT but I just love 'em! Space Crusade is an old friend and is one that is on my 'to get' list for the parts alone. The only thing I want to add at the moment is some remote sentry guns like those used in Aliens.

They look almost identical to my own BA Termie horde from 1st Edition. May you never roll triples with all those AC matey!

Bless thy weapons, Begin the litergies of hate...

I must confess that I really enjoyed the game and am looking forward hugely to giving it a spin again. Its funny how after the detachment of years the whole system seems somehow more homogenous and i am able to appreciate more fully how great a game this was (is).

Lock and load............;-)
