Deep in the heart of Nelson country

I have just returned from a rather pleasant couple of days in Norfolk which included a visit to Cromer - the home of the crabs. Aside from the bracing sea air and a couple of rather good secondhand bookshops (and a pretty good model shop as well) I managed to pick up a copy of Tom Pocock's biography of Nelson from a charity shop.

Over the years I have played a fair number of Napoleonic naval games and have read a number of books on Trafalgar but have never read a biography of Nelson. This is a welcome addition to the collection and I am a fan of Tom Pocock's style of writing so will look forward to reading this. I cannot see me acquiring any models for this though - rigging 1/1200th scale models does not really do it for me - but having said that there are some very nice 1/2400th models produced by Tumbling Dice that may prove a temptation too many....

David,

I hope the weather wasn't too bad where you were staying. Sue and I usually stay in Old Hunstanton in north west Norfolk ... and over the years we had given serious consideration to moving there.

All the best,

Bob

Looks interesting??? Last time I went to Cromer there was an invasion of ladybirds, there were literally millions of them, it sounded like you were walking on gravel, when you walked along the path, the kids were terrified!

Hi Bob,

The weather was pretty good once we had arrived at Laurel's sisters place at Sprowston near Wroxham.

We really like the whole area and have also discussed moving up there at some point. I have not been to Hunstanton though so shall put this on our list for a future visit.

All the best,

DC

Hi Ray,

I am a great fan of Tom Pocock so was very pleased to pick this up - and at only £1.25 it was a bargain!

No ladybirds in evidence - just plenty of tourists!

All the best,

DC

I am one of those with a large (and untouched) collection of small scale Napoleonic ships. The full Trafalgar Fleet pack as I recall it in fact. Really neat and they fit wonderfully on my classic/antique Wooden Ship and Iron Men board.

One Day...sigh...

Hi Paul,

Now that would be something to see! Many years ago I used to play Ship O' the Line which were the square gridded table top rules that evolved into WSIM. We had some cracking games using those rules.

All the best,
