This is a long running and continuing journey around a collection of ideas, projects, games, models and a variety of wargaming related themes from my own imagination and from others. As I have been described as having the attention span of a forgetful goldfish you can rest assured the resulting subject matter will be diverse and (usually) entertaining! Risk of a Campaign Viktory II
Plenty of bits in the box for sure - and it uses hexes....
I came across this on the net and boy, oh boy oh boy do I want one!
Hi David, I played Viktory once a few years ago, with 6 or 7 other players, so it was a big, cut-thoat game, ala Risk. It is somewhat more involved than Risk regarding recruitment and combat, toward the same level as original Axis and Allies. So it is very abstract, and kind of gamey, but I enjoyed it. The only reason I never purchased it is the steep price tag and the dearth of interested players in my gaming group. Great bits, though. Regards, John
You have to order Viktory direct from the inventor/manufacturer in the USA. Before you do, if you haven't already, check boardgamegeek and links thereon.
I used to have a set but sold it, as it was too abstract and gamey to portray Napoleonic/early 19th century warfare to suit my taste.
From what I've read, I think C&C is a far better game of battle.
It looks really entertaining and as you say the bits are very nice. I read the 'history' of the game and originally it started life as a 19th century based game rather than specifically Napoleonic. Trouble is, shipping this from the US would be expensive.
Are the pieces from this hard plastic or polythene? I note you can buy the components separately which may be a good and cheap option to use with the plastic Risk bits I have.
It looks like it is only available over your side of the pond so shipping (and probably customs) will stop me from buying the full game although the components are available separately.
David, The pieces are hard plastic rather than Airfix style polythene. I preferred the more 'toy soldier' pieces of Viktory I; those in VII are more 'realistic' but this seems inappropriate to such a stylised game. Arthur
I would think that I could make up a doppleganger for this game using a combination of Heroscape tiles, Mighty Empires cities and towns, plastic infantry and cavalry and some kind of ships!
Many thanks for the info - much appreciated. I am wondering if the original pieces are available so will contact Viktory themselves for some more info. I really like the potential of this game as an imagi - nation tool kit and the - especially as they are hard plastic - would be extremely useful for this and even allowing for shipping from the US are very cheap if purchased separately.

As a general rule, this game is only available from the original designer - in the USA from: http://www.viktorygame.com/index.htm#order
if you want to rely on other sources, you will need to be lucky or patient!
Very nice find, David. Looks like something I might even be able to rope my wife into playing.

Steve

Hi Welshgamer,
I figured that was the case so will have to think long and hard about whether or not to acquire a set.

One for the wish list methinks!

Hi Jim,
My thoughts entirely! There is huge potential with this as an imagi-nation tool kit of some kind.
