Marauding Highlanders with a lone piper in the foreground. I am really pleased with the small footprint of the units in the collection which is very handy when used in conjunction with a grid.
I was able to spend some time this morning sorting out the 18mm figures I received in error and I am now even more convinced that switching scales is the best option for me! So much so that the 28mm collection has now been disposed of and will be delivered to its new cantonment later in the week.
The forces I have are as follows:
4 x 48 figure highlander regiments
1 x 48 figure Irish regiment
2 x 48 figure red coated regiments
2 x 48 figures white/grey coated regiments
1 x 48 figure yellow coated regiment
2 x 48 figure Scottish Covenanters regiments
1 x 27 figure Ironsides cavalry regiment
1 x 27 figure Scottish cavalry regiment
Command, characters and casualties
As you can see this is an impressive amount of material that needs very little to finish. I already have an order in for required bits and pieces and so will be well set up with an impressive looking collection.
I have yet to assemble the main bulk of the above but will do so once I have the rest of the collection to hand. All Ewing well this should be in a few weeks which means that I can get some more work in on the ships - as well as hopefully introducing my grandson into the delights of naval wargames!

Well I think you made the right choice as these look much better IMHO. Certainly you have a good mix of troops for some games there and look forward to seeing them on the table.
I agree with Steve, 18mm works really well.
Looks like the right decision. Even thinned out a little at 36 figures, that would still look good.
Hello there Steve J,
There are a few bits and pieces to add but I am close to being ready to roll! I was quite pleased with the number of highlanders....
All the best,
DC
Hi there tradgardmastare,
I have no problem with the revised decision and the figures look really good - the best thing by far is the convenience of the smaller unit footprint.
All the best,
DC
Hi nundanket,
My feeling at present is to stick with full size units to take advantage of the mass effect. The only difference I am planning is to use a four base cavalry unit as the standard. Artillery will be organised in batteries of two pieces.
I will be using model guns rather than the WoFun versions.
All the best,
DC
Your wee piper standing alone reminds me of a great Scottish/English joke.
I'll tell you someday.
No stopping you when you are on a roll ;)
They look great. Do you use the Wofun bases or make your own?
Cheers
Simon
Hi Simon,
These are the original WoFun versions although I know some WoFun gamers that use their own design of base - I suspect that Warbases will be getting a number of requests for some!
All the best,
DC
Hi Jim,
I will look forward to hearing that!

Hello there Geordie,
Call me butter - I’m on a roll.....
All the best,

There was this king called Edward. He decided to head north to beat up his little neighbour. When he got to a hill at the border he spied a lone piper standing in the road who then ran away back over the hill.
Edward sent a sergeant and a couple of men after him. There was sounds of fighting and then nothing.
After a while Edward sent a regiment over the border and there was more sounds of fighting and then more silence.
A single man came limping back shouting 'It's a trap, there's two of them'.
Fully agree the 18mm are far better in terms of look but especially as you say in terms of foot print
Looking forward to seeing the whole collection when reinforcements arrive.
Me I’m playing with the Warlord ‘epic’ which I also think has potential
I think the 18mm look far better and as you say have a better footprint for gaming
Really looking forward to seeing the whole collection in action.
All the best for the New Year.
I’m playing with the new epic plastic figures - lots of options for these my mind is working overtime
It's great to see these on a wargamer's blog (as opposed to the company's website) as it gives a real impression for people to know what they get.
They look really good, don't they?
Regards, James
Hello there James,
I can see myself using 18mm WoFun for at least another couple of periods where large scale battles feature. By all accounts next year will see a lot more periods covered and I wish them every success with what is such a great idea!
All the best and happy new year!

Hi Jim,
That made me chuckle for sure!
All the best and a happy new year!

Hello there Graham C,
I am really delighted with the 18mm figures but for sure had space not been an issue I would have persevered with the 28mm as they are also really lovely.
Take care and all the best for the new year!
DC
Hello there Graham C,
I like the idea behind the Warlord ‘epic’ ACW figures but I am going to be very disciplined and merely gaze longingly at them....
I have way too many other things on the go an planned to be able to tackle them as well!
All the best and a happy new year to you!
DC
They look really nice David...
If it gets toys on the table it can’t be wrong...
All the best. Aly
Hello there Aly,
That is a good point well made!
All the best and happy new year!
